The Cape Fear River Assembly (CFRA) recently set up a scholarship through the Cumberland Foundation. The foundation will offer a variety of services and many years of experience to make sure that the scholarship is publicized and administered in the most effective and efficient manner. The (CFRA) awarded its first annual scholarship on May 25, 2017 at the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens. The award amount was for $1,500. Chad Ham, Tom Hoban, and Lisa Moeller were there to help present the scholarship.

The award was received by Isaiah McBryde who is graduating from South View High School. He had three years participation in FFA (annual litter sweep, planted trees for Arbor Day, … this club significantly influenced his career choice). Member of Key Club, Environmental Club, and National Honor Society. Volunteer tutor at school.
He will attend NC State and is majoring in biology/plant biology. Excerpt from his application: “With Botany, I may be able to breed new plant varieties that can survive the Earth’s changing climate. I may also revive endangered plant species and help restore balance to ecosystems.”
